CHARITABLE GIVING

The Charitable Giving Committee is a sub-comittee of the Church Council responsible for identifying charitable organisations / worthy causes that they consider deserving of financill support by The Anglican Church of Paphos. Each year members of the Church are invited to submit names that they would like the CGC to review.

Working to an AGM approved budget they submit their recommendations to Church Council for their consideration and deliberations together with the recommended sums of money to be given to each organisation / worthy cause. Funds for local charities are raised at our annual Christmas Fayre and average €20,000. International charities are funded from Church monies and average some €25,000.

Appeals (specific requests for relief, aid etc.) and animal or pet charities (e.g. dogs, cats, donkeys, fish, birds, reptiles etc.) are not in the brief of The Charitable Giving Committee.

MINISTRY TO VISITORS

Ministry to visitors in Ayia Kyriaki is certainly very different to the United Kingdom version. Three mornings a week a very dedicated team of church members, not only from Paphos but as far away as St. Luke's in Polis, show people around our beautiful, old, Greek Orthodox church and chat over a cup of coffee in the church hall.

We have the privilege of not only meeting holidaymakers from all parts of the world, (indeed our visitors book makes fascinating reading) but we get to meet some of the couples who decide to get married in Ayia Kyriaki.

This huge spectrum of visitors makes Ministry to Visitors very rewarding, coupled with the fact we have a special, spiritual church we all like to share.

We feel Ministry to Visitors is a very important part of church life, it makes us very aware of how lucky we are to be here and brings world wide fellowship and different religious beliefs together.

CAMEO

CAMEO (Come and Meet Each Other) was started in 2006 as a place primarily for people who wish to meet others for a chat over a cup of tea or coffee and has proved to be very successful.

From small beginnings, it has grown and many friendships have been formed. Social outings are arranged between individuals, or couples, who wish to do so, such as trips to the theatre or meals out etc., with others just looking forward to coming along every week to chat among themselves.

There is a CAMEO Christmas party, organised by volunteers, held every year at St. Stephen's, and people are also asked if they would like to join the church booking, at a local hotel, for Christmas Day lunch and both of these events have proved to be popular and are very well attended.

There is a very good team of volunteers, on a rota basis, who run CAMEO every week, but other helpers would be most welcome, as well as anyone who could offer lifts to people without access to a car.

CAMEO is held at St. Stephen's church in Tala, on Wednesday mornings at 10.30 - 12.30.

There will be NO more meetings of CAMEO until further notice.

BARNABAS GROUP

The Barnabas Group meets on the first Monday of the month at 10.30am in the Church Hall at Ayia Kyriaki. This is an 'open' group where everyone is welcome to attend. We enjoy listening to a speaker; some have been about travels, others informative of the area in which we live and work. We also have the occasional outing to a winery or somewhere of local interest.

MEN'S BREAKFAST FELLOWSHIP

The Fellowship provides a forum for Christian men to meet and enjoy food and fellowship. Meetings take place on the second Saturday of each month from October to May (excluding January). Assembling at 9.00am at 'The Moonlight Taverna' near Ayia Kyriaki in Kato Paphos, a full English Breakfast is enjoyed before a talk by a guest speaker in the nearby Church Hall.

Talks cover a range of subjects as varied as religions, charities, past careers and hobbies. An excellent atmosphere of bonhomie prevails and new attendees are made very welcome.

FLOWER CLUB

Following the success of the first couple of Flower Festivals we decided that we needed to keep the team together and encourage them to develop their skills for future festivals. There was also a need to teach those who were interested to learn the art of Flower Arranging. The Paphos Flower Club was set up by the organisers of the Flower Festival from both the Anglican and Catholic Churches. It is open to all, membership of one of the churches is not a criteria. Flower Arranging classes for beginners and improvers are held in the Church Hall and, from the New Year to the Flower Festival in April, there are workshops to plan the displays and give help and advise where needed. All club members are involved with the Flower Festival using whatever level of skill they have.

KALOSORISATE

Kalosorisate (a Greek word meaning 'Welcome') is our quarterly magazine and copies are distributed free to church members and visitors and over 100 copies are mailed out to friends of our church worldwide. The publication contains colour photographs, reports, thoughts and stories, many from the readership, together with the usual parish magazine items - children's page, jokes and parish information.

SOCIAL

The Social Committee of the Chaplaincy exists to allow parishioners, their families and friends to let their hair down by arranging various monthly social functions; at which we can all get to know each other better, to have some fun, and perhaps also relax from the pressures of everyday life.

Whether it be the annual Harvest Supper, 10 Pin Bowling, Crazy Golf, a Treasure Hunt or Beetle Drive, the committee exists to provide some time out for all those at our three Worship Centres to come together in His name in an informal setting - and to take time out and enjoy each others company.
